With the further implementation of the new curriculum, there is an increasing number of researchers getting interested in the study of teacher roles. The new curriculum proposes many new ideas about teaching, which conflict with the traditional concepts and ways of teaching held by teachers. It's obliged for teachers to reconsider about their roles and function various roles in a student-centered class, so as to adapt to the new curriculum and promote the implementation of the new curriculum. For those students who have learned some basic educational theories and advanced new concepts, how they will play their roles in real classrooms becomes an interested issue to know.In this study, the analysis of the student-teachers' roles is based on the definitions of different teacher roles given by Harmer and Brown and accompanied by the author's own understanding of the new curriculum. At first, the author analyzed the major roles played by those six student-teachers. Then, some representative paragraphs were chosen from the transcription so as to analyze their roles in a detailed way. Among these six student-teachers, three of them were majored in English teaching during their graduate study and they also had practical teaching experience. On the contrary, the other three never learned English teaching before their post-graduate study, they had no teaching experience neither. As these two groups with different educational background, the author wants to find out whether they play roles differently in the same type of lesson. At last, the author discussed about whether there exists inadequacies when the student-teachers changed their roles in the classroom.Based on the previous analysis, this paper got the following results:Firstly, the student-teachers shouldered various roles in their classes, and their role changes adjusted the atmosphere, promoted the teaching process and improved the teaching proficiency. Secondly, when those two groups of student-teachers with different educational background functioned as director, organizer and controller, some differences were found between them. Thirdly, there exists some improvement when student-teachers functioned as director, controller, organizer and participant. Last but no least, this research brings us some enlightenment for our teacher education.
