With more and more importance attached to education in China, English education has become one of the most important subjects in schools all over the country. It is one of the great measures to improve the whole nation's quality to popularize English education in the whole country. For this reason, English teaching is a matter of vital importance. Since the old English teaching models are not quite adapted to the educational situation in 21st century, we have to find out some new and good English teaching models that are geared to the new situation so as to improve English teaching to a higher level. Quality education is emphasized in 21st century. The key point of quality education lies in the fostering and cultivating the student's innovative spirits. To reach this objective, teachers of English themselves first of all also must have innovative spirits in their teaching. It is their duty and responsibility to make great efforts to find out some wonderful innovative teaching models. They should teach the students in class well by stimulating their interest in learning English, and by developing their innovative thinking and improving their integrated quality. As we all know, classroom is a main place in which teaching and learning are carried out, a place where a teacher brings his/her talent into full play and students are trained into talents with innovative spirits. All this poses a challenge to us, teachers of English. So it is a arduous task for us to develop our teaching models in class to a certain extent. In this present paper, I intend to give some of my opinions of innovative teaching models in middle school English classes from the following two respects:Basic theories: the basic theories of innovative teaching models in middle school English classes are expounded in the first place. What are discussed is as follows: the origin of innovative teaching, the concept of innovative teaching, the basic structures of innovative teaching, and the important functions of innovative teaching in English class. Besides, the present paper also deals with the characteristics of innovative teaching model in class, the general frame of innovative teaching model in class, and several foreign English class models. By expounding all this, I mean to provide sufficient theories and the general direction of innovative teaching models in class.Practical and useful models: some practical and useful innovative teaching models in classes are presented to the readers in the second place. According to the Senior English Text Book compiled by Liu Daoyi and C Jacques, each unit of this textbook is divided into four separate texts. Besides, there are an exercise class and a revision class in one unit. So basing on the division of each unit, I try creating six innovative teaching models in class. In order to make the readers have a clear understanding of all the six models, the paper will present each model through its basic theories, its purposes and functions, its manipulative programs, its necessary conditions, its evaluations by taking some of my actual teaching practice for example.Generally speaking, the present paper tries to focus on the innovative teaching models in English classes in middle schools. Needless to say, under the new situation, it's necessary, important and feasible for teachers of English in China to try the innovative teaching models in English class. Theories and teaching practice have proved that these teaching models are practical and easy to follow. It is my sincere hope that the present thesis can provide English teachers of middle schools with some good clews to improving their teaching. As long as all of us, teachers of English, are concerned with the reform in English teaching and make great efforts to develop the innovative teaching models in English classes, English teaching quality in our country will certainly get perfect day by day , and will live up to the expectation of times.
