Objective: To investigate psychological health status and epidemiologic characteristics of unintentional injuries of middle school students, to explore the risk factors of unintentional injuries occurred among middle school students, providing suggestion to prevent and control the unintentional injuries among middle school students in minority nationality regions.Method: A total of 1892 students, as subjects were selected from four middle schools in Baise by using cluster-stratified sample. (1) unintentional injuries patterns, were investigated with questionnaire signed by auther in selected middle school during July, 2002 to July, 2003, including frequency of injury occurred, categories of injury, place of injury occurred, body site of injured, cause of injury, methods of treatment aftered injuries. (2) the psychological health status was measured with the Symptom Checklist 90 (SCL?90) . (3)general characteristics of students and their parents were investigated with questionnaire of general status for middle school students designed by auther, including parents' occupation, education, income per month etc.. Descriptive statistics was used to describe the epidemiological characteristics of unintentional injury, t-test, ANOVA and Chi-square test were used to compare the differenc between group, for numeric and categorical variables, respectively. Multivariate Logistic regression analysis method was conducted to explore the risk factors of Unintentional injuries occurred among middle school students.Result: (l)The total injury incidence rate was 32.13%. The injury incidence rates were higher for male students (34.01%) than female students(30.18%), for junior high school (40.56%) than senior high school(23.28%), for others nation' injury incidence rate (45.05%) than the Han nationality(31.66%) and Chuang(31.05%). The incidence rate of injury decreased with age decrease, it was the top and kept the high level from 12 to 15 years old. The top five categories of injuries were falls (29.55%) , collision (15.26%) ,knife-cutting (12.70%) , struck by hard object (5.10%) , traccfic accidenct (4.76%) .The calendar distribution of injury occurred was at top in February, while at bottom in April. The injuries caused by self was leading constitution. The two common place of injuries occured were school and home. The main causes of injury were athletic sports, riding bicycle, playing, and working around house. The injury mostly appeared in lower extremities, then in upper extremities, head/face, multiple injuries and so on. The main injured students received the medical care from teacher or parents, the followed received the medical care from out-patient clinic and clinic unit at school. (2) The total positive rate of the psychological problems of the subjects is!6.3% among middle school students. The positive rates of psychiatric symptoms were higher for female students (25.84%) than male students(18.91%), for senior high school (30.60%) than junior high school(14.78%), for Chuang than the Han nationality and others nation. The rate of psychiatric symptoms were significant difference among sex, age and nationality group(P<0.01).Of all the psychiatric symptoms, the top positive rate was obsessive-compulsive (6.15%), following in decreasing order were inter-personal sensitivity, depression, hostility and anxiety. The rate of psychiatic symptom had trend of increasing as age increased and reached the top at the age of 17 to 18. Except the factor of hostility, the scores of other factors were higher for senior high school students than junior high school(P<0.01); Except the factors of obsessive-compulsive, inter-personal sensitivity, hostility, paranoid, the scores of other factors were higher for female students than male (P<0.01). The score of psychiatric symptom has no significance difference between divorced family and undivirced family(p>0.05), while anxiety score of students from divorced family was higher than others The results of Multivariable Logistic Regression show that the injury occurred among middle school studen...
