Objective:To describe the epidemiological features, the influencing factors of the unintentio-nal injuries and the social adaptation behavior characteristics of middle school studentswho were injured in Bengbu City,Anhui Province,to provide a theoretical basis for thedevelopment of effective prevent measures. Methods:A total of2530students from58classes of7middle schools of Bengbu Citywere randomly selected by using stratified and cluster sampling.Investigated intentionalinjuries occurred among middle school students from April1,2011to April1,2012.Therecognized criteria for injuries designed by Wang Shengyong,self-designed unintention-al injuries status and influencing factors questionnaire and middle school students’socialadaptation scale were used to collect the data.Univariate analysis was adopted using thechi-square test to ensure correlation between intentional injuries rate and variables.Multinomial logistic regression models were used to estimate main factors associatedwith intentional injuries rate.Results:(1) The total of2697unintentional injury events occurred among1096middleschool students. The basic investigation reveals that an general incidence rate ofunintentional injuies was43.36%,The overall incidence rate of injuries was106.60%.Multiple injuries rate was19.37%,consisted of490students who suffered1676unintentional injuries, with an incidence rate of62.14%among total unintentionalinjuries. There ware statistically significant difference in unintentional injuries rate ofdifferent times according to boys′education phase and girls′education phase.(2) There were statistically significant differences in the incidence rate of oneinjury among gender, whether for left handedness, whether left-behind, the differentdiscipline way of father and mother(P<0.05); There were statistically significantdifferences in the incidence rate of twice injury among education phase, whether for left handedness, the different discipline way of father and mother(P<0.05); There werestatistically significant differences in the incidence rate of overall injury among schooltype, gender, education phase, family social economic status, whether left-behind, thedifferent discipline way of father and mother, type in a family, population in afamily(P<0.05).(3) The top five types of unintentional injuries included fall injuries(25.32%),hurtby sharp weapons(13.76%),collision(13.05%),animal bite(12.05%),burn(10.53%).Leading tow injuries were falls and hurt by sharp weapons, the cumulative incidrnce rateof middle school students was the highest at different education phase among12kindscommon unintentional injuries. The location of the unintentional injuries most occurredat home(42.08%)and school(21.73%),the most common position of injuries ware lowerlimbs(25.77%)and fingers/toes(25.10%).73.90%of the injuries caused by themselves, the main simple treatments after injuries ware from themselves(35.41%),the generalcrippleing rate was0.08%.(4) The middle school students who had social maladjustment behaviors in thequeue632,the overall incidence rate was174.68%, The top five types of unintentionalinjury included fall injuries(40.08%), collision(23.10%), hurt by sharp weapons(22.63%),animal bite(21.20%)and burn(18.83%); social well-adapted behaviors ofstudents queue1898, the overall incidence rate was83.93%, The top five types of unin-tentional injury included fall injuies(22.66%), hurt by sharp weapon(12.01%),collision(10.85%),animal bite(10.38%)and burn(8.69%).There were statistically significantdifferences in the incidence rate of different types of injury among maladjustment grouphigher than well-adapted group(P<0.05). There were statistically significant differencesin the incidence rate of different times of injury among maladjustment group higherthan well-adapted group(P<0.01).(5)Multinational logistic regression analysis showed that male, junior section, left handedness, left-behind, family social economic status was low or medium andsocial maladjustment behaviors were the risk factors of overall injuries. Parentsdiscipline way were strict was protective factor of overall injuries. Conclusion:The unintentional injury rate of middle school students was in a high level.injury rate varied by gender and education phase.sociodemographic variable and socialadaptation behaviors may predict different times injury which should be enhance predictfactors research, comprehensive intervention measures should be taken to reduce unintentional injury occurrence.
