Background:The incidence of unintentional injuries among preschool children was high. Unintentional injuries occurred at home most frequently. The knowledge, blief/attitude and behaviors of parents preventing the unintentional injuries of preschool children had low levels. The knowledge level of parents preventing the unintentional injuries of preschool children, whether they establish active, right blief/attitude and change their dangerous behaviors, the intensity of parents educating and supervising their children can impact the occurrence of unintentional injuries of preschool children. The study of educational interventions on parents preventing the in-home unintentional injuries of preschool children in kindergartens hadn't been seen yet.Objective:To describe the status of knowledge, blief/attitude and behaviors of parents preventing the in-home unintentional injuries of preschool children, and to evaluate the effects of educational interventions on parents preventing the in-home unintentional injuries of preschool children.Methods:A quasi-experimental study was used in the study. Two kindergartens in Liuzhou City of Guangxi Province were selected conveniently. There were 90 subjects in the study which were divided into two groups, intervention group and control group. The intervention group was given three educational interventions. The contents of educational interventions were the preventions of four in-home unintentional injuries of preschool children, including burn, fall, choke and poisoning. The ways were through lectures, discussions and knowledge materials. The knowledge, blief/attitude and behaviors of parents preventing the in-home unintentional injuries were evaluated by three questionnaires about parents'knowledge, blief/attitude and behaviors. Data were collected at four points:before and after educational interventions, first month and third month after educational interventions.Results:81 subjects completed data collection procedures,40 subjects in intervention group and 41 subjects in control group. Compared two groups, at after educational interventions, first month and third month after educational interventions points, the knowledge scores, blief/attitude scores, behaviors scores, burn prevention scores, fall prevention scores and choke prevention scores of intervention group were higher than control group significantly (P<0.01), at first month and third month after educational interventions points, the poison prevention scores of intervention group were higher than control group significantly (P<0.01). Compared with baseline data, at after educational interventions, first month and third month after educational interventions points, the knowledge scores, blief/attitude scores, behaviors scores, burn prevention scores, fall prevention scores and choke prevention scores of intervention group increased significantly (P<0.01). Compared with baseline data and the point after educational interventions, at first month and third month after educational interventions points, the poison prevention scores of intervention group increased significantly (P<0.01). All indexes in control group didn't show any significant difference (P>0.05). Through analysis of the items, compared two groups, at after educational interventions, first month and third month after educational interventions points, the correct response rates of knowledge of intervention group were higher than control group(P<0.05 or P<0.01) including 18 items; the rates of every selections of the blief/attitude, burn prevention, fall prevention, choke prevention and poison prevention of intervention group were higher than control group(P<0.05 or P<0.01) including 9 items,8 items,7 items,4 items and 11 items seperately.Conclusions:The educational interventions on knowledge, blief/attitude and behaviors of parents preventing the in-home unintentional injuries of preschool children had good effects.
