| The frequent occurrence of the crisis in primary schools made children and young peopie suffering heavy losses on the life and health. In this study, we chose Grade 2 primary school students as the research object. With a combination of observing, surveying, interviewing and other methods, we conducted a deep analysis towards the cognitive characteristics and educational patterns of preventing unintentional injuries, as well as a comparative study between students from Shanghai, a tier one city, and Nantong, a tier three city. The empirical research was designed to accomplish three sub-projects: 1) Sorting of unintentional injury related safety essentials in the daily life of students,2) Indexing "knowledge, emotion, willing, behavior" pattern of primary school students,3) A comparative study between two cities. It was found that, primary teachers investigated the following four dimensions to assess unintentional injury related safety essentials:"whether universal", "whether urgent", "whether educable", "whether current curriculum available".Prevention of unintentional injuries to ensure the safety of students was a critical work content of primary school teachers, no matter of what kind of injuries. Most teachers believed that the awareness of unsafe events was educable through curriculums and behavioral trainings. The study also found that, parents in Shanghai tolerated less compared to those in Nantong regarding safety settings,When asked to "define", most of the Grade 2 students could only make simple sentences without important features. When asked to "explain", most of them could not offer complete answers and the underlying mechanisms. When asked to "identify", they performed well to ail tests. It was concluded that Grade 2 students were still thinking in images. The safety education should be design to meet the patterns of this stage and a systematic curriculum design should be employed. |
