In order to quickly improve present situation of the serious tendency of examination education and the closed, inactive training ways in writing teaching in senior middle school in China, I developed a "research" writing teaching method basing on my many years' teaching practice and theory study, using the experience of foreign writing teaching for reference, and taking in theories and methods of modern pedagogy, writing teaching and writing psychology. "Research" writing was a comprehensive writing activity in which students obtained writing source materials through selecting, collecting and studying problems or subjects from schools, families, and social life by cooperation of small group. In the process, the students regarded developing Chinese ability in all-round ways as the central task and improving Chinese writing accomplishment as start point.As an integrated and orderly process, research writing teaching helped the students to solve a series of difficult problems: Selecting subjects realized the change from "Let me write" to "I want to write"; Collecting materials solved the problem of "Nothing to write" effectively; Conceiving writing expanded students' thinking in both depth and scope; Demonstrating evaluation resolved the problem of "inability to evaluate", training the students to give all-round evaluation. Main body, subject, exploration, opening and cooperation were characteristics of the whole process. Our practice indicated that research writing teaching showed decided superiority to traditional writing teaching. It stimulated the students' writing motivation and interests, and improved their writing, practical and innovation thinking ability as well.
