This study collects materials through questionnaire survey and in-dept interview. Based on the relevant theories of sociology (socialization) and social psychology (social cognition), it aims to examine the relationship between the opinions on family gender equality and the cognition on controlling the sex ratios of infants from a angle of subjective ideas of the rural residents The first part includes the study background, the literature review, the conceptualization and the operation of concept. In addition, the framework, the hypothesis, and the research method of this study are also mentioned.The second part examines the rural residents' opinions on family gender equality. Rural residents' cognition on the function of families which have different gender children,the expectation on the level of education attainment of different gender children, the cognition on husband and wife's authority and obligation in a family, and the expectation on husband and wife's ability and status are described and analyzed in this part..The third part examines the rural residents' cognition on controlling the sex ratios of infants. The rural residents' judgment on deviance of infant sex choosing, the judgment on the effect of infant sex ratios maladjustment, and the cognition on the rationality of the policy and measure of controlling the sex ratios of infants are described and analyzed. The fourth part examines whether the rural residents' opinions on family gender equality affect the cognition on controlling the sex ratios of infants from five aspects, using multiple statistical analysis. It is illustrated that the rural residents' opinion on family gender equality has significant influence on their cognition on controlling the sex ratios of infants.The last part includes the conclusion and discussion of this study. It concludes that the factor of the subject (the rural residents' opinion on family gender equality), the environment (culture), and the object (the effect of controlling) all have significant influence on rural residents' cognition about controlling the sex ratios of infants. Besides, the complexity and the significance of rural residents' cognition about controlling the sex ratios of infants are also illustrated. As well, the specialty, the significance and the limitation of the study are included in this part.
