Today education takes the priority in the 21st century national development strategies, while achieving gender equality is one of the duties of education. Over the past decades of China's reforming and opening up, Chinese women's higher education has made great progress. Especially over the past 10 years females have more chances to accept higher education. The gap between the number of boys and girls in colleges has been narrowing. It can be said that it is the best period for women's higher education in the millennium history of education in china. Women's higher education in china has made great achievements attracting worldwide education. But as the changes of sex ratio in college, the problem of gender education has become increasingly prominent. There are sex conflicts, discrimination in students' study and employment. The concepts of sex in feudal times have the trend of comeback in some colleges. It is important for college students to choose and get ready for gender roles in college. They are faced to many confusions and anxieties in choosing and locating gender roles. However the awareness of gender equality and scientific understandings can not be generated naturally. The wrong concept is direct or potential obstruction for students' development, which obstructs the implementation of education equality. This in turn wastes the national human resources. It is also the constraint and obstacle for women's higher education.We should fully consider how to take gender equality and women development into the development of educational system and how to concern women development. We should implement gender equality education, advocate gender equality concept, and take them into teaching. So we can create good educational environments for gender equality. Ultimately destruct the inequality in education. We can even eliminate gender inequality, construct equal gender education.The paper is divided into 6 parts. The first part is the introduction, which introduces the research background. The second part introduces the basic theory of gender equality education, which consists of liberal feminist concept of equality in education, radical feminist concept of equality in education, contemporary socialist feminist concept of equality in education and post-modern fenimist concept of equality in education. Chapter Three analyzes the present situation of gender equality education in Chinese universities, and then it points out the exsiting problems and their effect and harm. Chapter Four draws references of gender equality education from universities in other countries, such as the United States, Canada, South Korea and Taiwan, and generalizes its enlightment. The last part is the reflection of how to implement gender equality education in China. To deal with these problems that have already existed, the writer puts forward some solutions and suggestions. |
