Zhu Xi was aprominent master of idealist philosophy in the Southern Song Dynasty . The Ziyang Academy was built to honor and acrifice the great master . At the end of the Southern Song Dynasties, in his hometown Huizhou , the local people and officials construct the first Ziyang Academy of Huizhou hononing him . During the Ming and the Qing Dynasity , Huizhou people went out on business and constructed The Ziyang Academy in Hankou in order to memorize the home saint as his essence.Influenced by the advanced educational system, increasing scholar businessmen, the concept of official supremacy,traditional economic structure and the need of commercial activities,the businessmen in the Ming and Qing Dynasties display particular characteristics,which finds full expression in their emphasis on benefit,loyalty,humanism,nature,and power and their indifference to feudal ethical codes.During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Huizhou merchants not only on support education insitutions in their home district, but also established academies in areas where they migrated. The Ziyang Academy of Huizhou was a typical of the academies that these merchants established for the studies of that their male descendants .The Ziyang Academy of Hankou contributed to both the development of commercial economy in the late feudal period and reflected the commom character of Huizhou merchants who both "traded and felt enthusiasm for Confucianism". An examination of the establishment of the Academy and the operation of its finances reveals the differences between merchant -sponsored academies and traditional academies.
