Study On The Status Of Dong Xiang Women In Family

During the investigation for The Study on Living Conditions and Measures of Development of Women in Minority Nationalities in Northwest of China supplied by The Ford Fund, I come to know some of the living conditions of Dong Xiang women. Under the tough natural conditions and laggard social circumstance, the serious problems of the women's life there, which hold my attention, makes me choose Study on Status of Dong Xiang Women in Families as my thesis considering that women's status in families can reflect a series of problems about women.The thesis makes a comprehensive presentation of Dong Xiang women's daily life by discussing their right to choose independent marriage, to bear children, their labor division in families and decision on the property, the affairs of their children and then-owns. By talking about their rights and obligations, it is supposed to show the roles they play in their families with the aim to display their status.It can be concluded that compared with their husbands and women in Han nationality, Women hi Dong Xiang live a passive lower status and more limited rights, but they have to perform more obligations.The thesis also analysis various causes of their lower status form viewpoints of culture, economy and education. Meanwhile it presents some suggestions to improve their status in their families.
