Ever since the reform in China, Chinese students have learned English for a considerably long time, and great achievements can be seen everywhere in consequence. But for a long time, under the pressure of entering university examination, the middle school students only take English as one of the major subjects for entering the university, thus overlook the real goal for learning a foreign language. In order to become a university student, both teachers and students are busy in doing a lot of every day examinations. They have no time, no energy, no environment and even no motivation and interest to practice their oral English. As a result, the communicative competence, especially the oral communicative ability of the middle school students are inferior, which is obviously deviated away from the ultimate goal of learning a foreign language. With China entering the WTO and the rapid progress it has made towards the four-modernization, China will need more and more specialists who have very good communicative competence. So it is high time to take actions to develop the students' oral ability in the middle school English teaching and learning.1 have thought about the following questions for a long time through my English teaching: Why do we learn a language? Why the oral communicative competence of our students is weak? Why should we improve the students oral communicative ability and how? 1 also applied the interactionist theory into my teaching and it's proved to be very effective in developing the students' oral communicative ability.I have analyzed the present situation in the middle school English learning, and reviewed / summarized the interactionist theory, constructivism and some other relevant theories and their effective guide to English teaching in my paper. 1 have also put these theories into practice with my English teaching. The emphasis of the paper is on the application of the interactionist theory and how it affects and improves the students' oral ability in English teaching, thus trying to find a new way to improve the students' oral communicative competence.
