At the beginning of the 21* century, Macao has undergone positively tremendous changes in the aspects of politics and economy as well as culture and living after the return in 1999 and the open-door policy for gambling rights. Meanwhile, deviant behavior among adolescents is causing various social problems in terms of people's livelihood, folklore, education, public security, etc.On the basis of the current society in Macao and individual and family background of the subjects, Junior high school students ( from age 11 to 16), regardless of sex, this research is to study what causes their deviant behavior, how they display the behavior and how much the probability of development of criminal behavior is in accordance with the questionnaires and statistics. From the data analysis, we knew that, the deviant behavior is mostly aroused by the family background, including impoverished condition and neglect of parental care. Therefore, the public concern about this issue should be raised. Without appropriate guidance and counseling, the deviant behavior may eventually induce criminal behavior. The scores in "Family Background Scale" and "Deviant Behavior Scale" have been statistically analyzed, from which the conclusions have been drawn:1. Conflict with parents is fairly common among the families. Fortunately, "Care and Communication" and "Order" are in a more positive direction which indicates convivial family atmosphere and not quite bad relationships between members.Besides, families are less likely to participate in "Leisure Activities" or "Religious Faith".2. Among all the deviant behavior, "Hurting Others" has the highest rate. "Violating School Regulations", "Wandering Around", "Taking Drugs" and "Stealing and Gambling" come next. However, the situation has not gone worse because those items have not actually scored high.3. Among the family background, Junior high school boys have obviously outscored girls in "Care and Communication" and "Order" while girls have scored much higher than boys in "Conflict". Furthermore, among the deviant behavior, boys have averagely outscored girls, in which the behavior like hurting others with speech and tools is the most remarkable.4. There is no considerable discrepancy in scores in "Family Background Scale" and "Deviant Behavior Scale" between students in different forms. However, Junior Three students have generally scored higher than Junior One and Junior Two students in "Stealing and Gambling" and "Violating School Regulations".5. There is no considerable discrepancy in scores in each item of "Family Background Scale" and "Deviant Behavior Scale" between students born in different places.6. There is no considerable discrepancy in scores in "Family Background Scale" and "Deviant Behavior Scale" between students in different rankings of all siblings. Nevertheless, the deviant behavior like "Taking Drugs" and "Wandering Around" has significant difference in scores. The only children in the families are much more likely to display these two types of behavior than the eldest and youngest ones in the families.7. There are no considerable discrepancies in scores in "Family Background Scale" and "Deviant Behavior Scale" between students from different family structure. Yet, students from single-parent families and parental families have outscored those from guardian families in "Leisure Activities", and those from single-parent families have scored higher than those from parental families in "Violating School Regulations" and "Wandering around".8. Students with high, medium and low scores in "Family Background Scale" have not apparently scored different in "Deviant Behavior Scale".9. Both the correlation of family background and of deviant behavior are remarkable.10. Among the family background, "Care and Communication", "Conflict" and "Order" have respectively reached a significant degree with the deviant behavior and the entire "Deviant Behavior Scale" while "Leisure Activities" and "Religious Faith" have not reached a significant degree with the deviant behavior.Wit...
