A Study On The Professional Relationship Dilemma In Social Work Service And Its Countermeasures

The quality of professional relationship in social work will directly affect the effectiveness of service,so the professional relationship has always been the concern of scholars and practitioners in China.However,in the practice of our country,the establishment,maintenance and termination of professional relations are often confronted with many difficulties.The deep reason behind these difficulties in professional relations is the huge difference between western and Chinese social work practice.Blindly copying western social work methods and theories will inevitably lead to "acclimation".In such a western society of "group structure",social work has the help of institutional trust.Social workers can obtain the trust of service objects through service contracts,and then the maintenance and termination of professional relationships is also natural.However,in such a "differential pattern" society in China,it is difficult for service objects to establish real trust in unfamiliar social workers,and the development of professional relationships often depends on the assistance of acquaintances.The path choice of social workers to develop professional relationship by borrowing acquaintance relationship has caused the common dual relationship phenomenon in the practice process of our country,which has a series of influences on the practice of social work.This paper takes the service of a troubled child in D County as a case study,and discusses many professional relationship dilemmas encountered by social workers in the process of service development and their coping strategies.In different development stages of professional relationship,acquaintance relationship and professional relationship are intertwined,presenting a kind of dual relationship dilemma.In the stage of professional relationship establishment: on the one hand,the service objects naturally question and reject strangers(social workers) and strange things(social work);on the other hand,the service objects have "negative help mode" due to the influence of the traditional culture of "favor and face",so the establishment of professional relationship is frustrated.In the deepening stage of professional relations: interpersonal relations in the society of "differential order pattern" are rich in flexibility.With the increase of communication,social workers establish quasi-kinship relationship with service objects,and social workers’ personal philosophy and professional value philosophy compromise each other,resulting in the dilemma of ambiguous professional identity of social workers.At the end of the professional relationship,the social worker and the service object have a lot of emotional investment,and the service object can’t bear to be separated,thus presenting the dilemma of parting emotional processing.To cope with these dilemmas,social workers follow a naive "pragmatism" that blends social work expertise with their own practical experience and adopts a "practical" strategy at different stages of professional relationship development.In the early stage of professional relationship establishment,social workers have successfully broken the ice by adopting sincere acceptance attitude,"building relationships" and linking community resources in the face of distrust and rejection from service objects.At the stage of deepening professional relations,social workers should clarify their professional roles,improve their professional services and highlight their professional roles in the face of ambiguous professional identities.In the end stage of professional relationship,social workers choose to use the ceremony of evening party to end professional relationship and retain acquaintance relationship,so as to dilute the influence of the end of professional relationship.In general,these "practical" strategy look more like a "pantomime horse",but when similar "practical" strategy frequently and widely used in social work practice,and should cause enough attention of academics and practitioners,because this endless"practical" strategy is a major part for the localization of social work.Finally,the author summarizes and reflects as follows: how to treat the professional relationship in the special social work practice situation in China;What is the logic behind the countermeasures taken by social workers,and what is the impact of these countermeasures.Finally,the author thinks that the fundamental solution to the dilemma of professional relations lies in the localization of professional relations,and puts forward some suggestions.
