This thesis takes the generation ,evolvement, development and prosperity of Hu-Xiang culture as longitude, the origin, establishment, prosperity and reformation of Chinese education in Hunan as latitude. And it also takes the succession and harmonious progress between Hu-Xiang culture and Chinese education in Hunan as its main part,the inheritance and reformation of Hu-Xiang culture as its complementary part. The whole thesis consists of three chapters.Chapter one expounds the origin formation and development of Hu-Xiang culture and the establishment of traditional Chinese education in Hunan.The ancient latent Chinese education is the origin of Chinese education in Hunan,and the educational idea and Chinese creation of Jia-Yi offer material and model for Chinese education of later ages. The prosperity of the academy offers Chinese education in Hunan with foundation. Meanwhile , the inherent characteristics of Hu-Xiang culture has permeated the Chinese education in Hunan .Chapter two elaborates the modernization of Hu-Xiang culture and the development of Chinese education in Hunan after its becoming an independent subject. After the Jia-Wu war, Hu-Xiang culture steps into modernization and becomes the pioneer of independence of Chinese subject.Since its independence, Chinese education in Hunan shows new traits and carry through popular Chinese education and vernacular movement.Therefore, a mass of Chinese educationists who edified by Hu-Xiang culture emerge.Chapter three expounds the reference meaning of Hu-Xiang culture for modern Chinese education in Hunan. We should not only draw conception from educational idea of Chinese education contained in Hu-Xiang culture, but also search spiritual power from the patriotism in Hu-Xiang culture. Meanwhile,we should be open-mind and innovative so as to stimulate the ambition to reform Chinese education and found scientific road for Chinese education.
