Actual effect is the key and crucial issue in ideological and political education for college students. And the improvement of actual effect is a big problem urgently to be solved in current ideological and political education for college students. Since the implementation of the reform and opening up policy, particularly since the Fourth Plenary Session of the Thirteenth Central Committee of the Party, great achievements and much experience have been gained in ideological and political education for college students. It should be pointed out, however, that there is still much room for improvement in ideological and political education for college students so as to get adjusted to the unpredictable current trend at home and abroad. The present essay, therefore, titled "a study on the actual effect of ideological and political education for college students", makes an attempt to, with the adherence to integrating theory with practice, taking as the point of departure the basic theoretical principles of actual effect in ideological and political education for college students, making analysis of the status quo of actual effect in current ideological and political education for college students and the difficulties it encounters, put forwards some further countermeasures for the improvement of actual effect in present-day ideological and political education for college students. The essay is organized into three parts. Part One gives a survey to the actual effect in ideological and political education for college students. Starting with the definition and connotation of actual effect in ideological and political education for college students, it proceeds to give a brief discussion on its standards and principles, thus lays a foundation for the forthcoming discussion. Part Two is about the status quo of ideological and political education for college students and the difficulties it encounters. Specifically, through an analysis of the ideological trend and moral standards of the present-day college students, of the new situation and new problems that ideological and political education for college students is now facing, and of the defect it itself has, it goes deep into the profound causes that give rise to the less effect in ideological and political education for college students. Part Three deals with the countermeasures for the improvement of the actual effect in ideological and political education for college students. Based on the shortcomings existing in the current ideological and political education for college students that fail to adjust to the characteristics and requirements of the trend, approaches and methods are proposed in five aspects to improve the actual effect in current ideological and political education for college students. The present essay holds that, the prerequisite to the actual improvement of actual effect in ideological and political education for college students is to renew the concept for ideological and political education, adhere to the people-oriented education conception, improve the quality of theoretical teaching of ideology in an endless way, enrich and broaden the way of ideological and political education, integrate the resources in ideological and political education, and perfect the mechanism for ideological and political education. Only in this way can the ultimate realization of actual result in ideological and political education be guaranteed.
