During the long history of China, the industrious and wise people have created excellent Chinese culture. As the representative of the traditional culture, the confucious culture, whose essence is "Ren", has been shaping the characteristics of Chinese people as well as mentality of Chinese people for thousands of years and has been creating the excellent Chinese civilization. Just as the saying goes that every coin has two sides, the traditional culture hinders our sports culture at some time. In a long time, our sports culture advocated friendship in stead of victory or creativeness. This kind of sports culture had a side effect on the international competition, esp on that of a football activity. Frankly speaking, our traditional culture has influenced our ideas and viewpoints in many respects, which also affected the modern football culture and thus confined the development of Chinese football activity. But we could not agree with some scholars'conclusion that it is the fault of our traditional culture that should be blame for the backward in football. In fact, there are many more deep reasons for the failure in Chinese football development. We should not deny the shortcomings of our traditional culture , but at the same time, we should admit that the traditional culture have been playing a positive role in the football development in China. Here the paper aims to give a thorough and total analysis of the traditional culture's influence on football and reach some scientific conclusions as well as affording some reasonable advice. At the very beginning of the paper, the main characters of our traditional culture are presented. Compared with the feature of western culture, it can be easily found that on one hand the traditional culture has many side effects on the football activity, which is mainly represented in the lack of competition consciousness or creativeness and many other respects. On the other hand, our traditional culture is very helpful in creating a harmonious atmosphere among the football players as well as in cultivating their patriotism and in many other respects. In a word, the traditional culture can play a negative role as well as a positive part in developing the football activity. What we should do is try our best to make full use of the essence as well as discarding the dross in our traditional culture. Only in this way, can we foster our subject consciousness and develop our own modern football culture.
