In the foreword of "Chinese New Literature - Prose II", Mr. Yudafu states, "the biggest characteristic of modern prose today is that every author or prose expresses more stronger personality compared to that of the past". "Personality Expression" represents a fundamental progress of modern prose in terms of its role of expression, for instance, self-finding of oneself and a harmony communications between oneself and a society etc. As a result, prose cannot be ignored due to its great advantage of educating human beings. The objects of Chinese teaching in middle school are young teenagers who are growing at their critical and most absorbable age in their lives. For this unique group of people, it has become very important to have them realize what they really are and what human beings mean. To achieve this, prose is able to provide teenagers the possibility of interpreting themselves and the world they are in not only from a literature perspective but also from a culture point of view. This thesis analyzes and discusses the above issues, investigates its root causes and explores new approaches and strategies that are more positive and practical in prose teaching.
