On The Creative Transformation Of Traditional University Ideas In China

The idea of the university is about people's rational insight into the university, pursuit of the ideal and belief in values. The formation of the ideology has been a long historic accumulation. Different cultural background between the East and the West has not only cultivated different university patterns, but also brought up different university ideals. On the basis of the research on the development and evolution of the ideology of traditional university in China and the Chinese traditional educationalists' ideals of the university, this dissertation tries to reveal the idea of the traditional Chinese university, and puts forward an ideal that it can be transformation into an organic components of the ideology of the modern university through creative transformation.This dissertation consists of four parts:Part One mainly talks about the definition of the traditional university and its ideal, the significance of the research, various views on this topic and main researching methods .Part Two mainly analyzes the historical evolvement of the ideology of the university of some representative and traditional institutes , such as Jixia Academy , the highest seat of learning in Hang Dynasty ,schools in Tang Dynasty , colleges in Song Dynasty ,Peking University . In addition, it gets a ideology of the traditional university which has national characteristics and certain common feature.Part Three deals with several representative Chinese higher educationalists' ideals of the university, such as Dong Zhongshu, Hang Yu, Zhu Xi, Zhang Zhidong , Cai Yuanpei ,Mei Yiqi, Zhang Boling etc., then point out their great influence .Part Four puts forward some basic considerations about how to realize the creative transformation of the ideal of the university from the traditional one on the basis of summarizing the basic spirit of Chinese traditional ideal of the university.
