Social Trust Establishment: A Perspective Of Nonprofit Organization

Social capital decides the economical institution and result by social elements including social trust. Trust, regulation and network are key factors that compose social capital. Some sociologists regard social trust not only as important parts but also as precondition of social capital. Scholars have been attaching great important to the research of social trust, and it has become one of the hottest academic research topics in our country and overseas.Being influenced by traditional culture, our society is one with high particularistic trust and low universalistic trust. During the period of social transformation, a series trust crises have been caused by the development of market economy; these crises not only influenced the establishment of universalistic trust but also destroy some particularistic trust exists now. Therefore to inquire the approach to the social trust establishment from the root of trust crises is an urgent thing. The need of trust emerges from interest and cooperation, and the problem of trust result from the risk of trust. Interest, profit and risk are just the major characters of market economy. Taking the market failure and government failure theories as the analysis foundation, this thesis tried to discuss the important relation between social trust establishment and nonprofit organization development, and find the union of them in the civil society theory. At last, from the Chinese traditional culture and transformation character, from the perspective of nonprofit organization, I found the cut-in point of social trust establishmentThis thesis is composed by five parts. The first part discussed trust researches in the fields of psychology, sociology and economy, and indicated that only from the view of multiple subjects, can we grasp the real essence of trust. The second part explained the definition, types and functions of trust, analyzed the root of trust and found the reason of trust problem from the market failure theory. The third part discussed several factors of nonprofit organization and analyzed the important role that nonprofit organization plays during the course of conquer the limitation of market by the combination of market failure theory and government failure theory. The fourth part began with the civil society theory and found the important relation between social trust and nonprofit organization in the concept of civil society. Thelast part, from the Chinese traditional culture and transformation background, discussed the phenomena and reasons of current trust crises, indicated the importance of nonprofit organization development, found the cut-in point between social trust establishment and nonprofit organization—building the public trust of nonprofit organization and brought forward my own suggestion for this building.
