A survey shows half of the middle school students have not developed a habit of reading after class. In pursuit of a value of self-caring in selecting reading materials, they seldom read the classic literature. The range of source of after-class reading is limited, school libraries cannot satisfy diverse needs of all students, and the books recommended by the new course standard are not available to all students. The current overall situation of after-class reading of middles school students is blind, random and disorder without active and effective guidance. Furthermore, it is a fact that after-class reading has not been given proper attention in classroom teaching. To reverse the situation of after-class reading into a rational one, a new idea is called for to attach great importance to culture edification, recommend proper reading materials, develop teachers' educational potentiality and instruct the students' after-class reading vigorously. Great efforts must be made to restructure the inside and outside system of Chinese and improve school libraries so as to widen the source of reading materials. Reading should grow into a spiritual demand of students, as well as the basis of their lifetime study and cultural development.
