Early in the seventies of the twentieth century, American psychologist Flavell put forward the term of "metacognition". Metacognition, which focuses on people's self-consciousness and self-control of cognitive activities, includes metacognitive knowledge, metacognitive experience and metacognitive monitor. The function of cognitive strategy is to help students to reach the aim of cognition in their cognitive activities. But the main function of metacognition is to offer students information about cognitive activities or activity development. Metacognition is the key of study strategy and study strategy transfer. This article explores how to improve students metacognitive abilities from the following different aspects: infiltration of thoughts and wags in chemistry subject;self-study;metacognitive strategy in classroom teaching;cultivating students' abilities of self-feedback and self-monitor;group cooperative study strategy and directing students to self-think and self-evaluate by taking notes in class. And at the same time, to help students learn to make study plans, control study process, self-criticize and take remedial measures, the following teaching principles should be followed: purpose principle;main part principle;self-control principle in the process of study;"self-monitor" and "self-adjust" principle.
