Among all the elements which influence language learning, strategy is the most decisive one. The focus of the research learning has shifted from the teacher perspectives to the student since last century. It is well known that the language learning is a cognitive process in which the learner factors play a decisive role. Recently, the learning strategy in foreign and second language learning is attracting lots of discussion. The researchers pay more attention to the study of how languages learners process the new language information, how they understand, tackle and retain the input.On the basis of a brief introduction to the learning strategies in and out of China and by employing R.L. Oxford Strategy Inventory for language learning, this paper makes an investigation and analysis of learning strategies of the high school students in No. 24 Middle School of Xiangfan .Attention is focused on the relationship between the learning strategies and factors such as achievements, sex and so on. The findings of the correlation analysis and independent sample test from SPSS indicate that the most frequently used strategies are cognitive strategies, affective strategies, communicative strategies, resourceful strategies. The study finally points out that the high achievement and low achievement students' strategies have significant difference. Using strategy correctly help students to be successful in English learning, whereas the success in English learning influences the use of the strategy. It also takes into account the teacher's role in strategy training and importance of strategy instructions.This paper makes a survey concerning the current English learning situation of the high students. The findings show that no proper learning strategies are employed in their English learning. The authors suggest that teachers should instruct the students how to use learning strategies and develop their learning habits. Hence, the teachers should guide the students how to learn effectively under the define strategies, and to promote English teaching quality so as to accomplish communication. Based on the analysis of the problems, the paper supplies some tentative plans and suggestions for the reform of our school English teaching and for the improvement of the English teaching and learning quality of the high school students.
