A large amount of sport practice indicates that the athlete's psychology of the conflict of sportmotive exists in most of the sport situations, and the athletes, who are playing on the athleticground, are often confused by the conflict which always appears after the sport motive happensand before the real athletic behavior is finished. For the decision of the conflict of sport motivehave a great influence on the sport achievement, the research on the conflict is of great value inthe application. This dissertation conducts the study on the cognition for the conflict of volleyballathletes' serve motive.This dissertation consists of three parts. The first part mainly concerns the theoretical basisfor this thesis, the study significance of it, the supposition and the whole framework of thedissertation;in the second part, the author gives a definition to sport motive and sport conflictrespectively, and explains their classification and the theory of sport motive;the last part is aboutan experiment, in which the author, from the cognitive psychological angle, discusses thecognitive process of the conflict of volleyball athletes' serve motive, resorting to theories andexperimental methods of cognitive psychology. The results of the experiment show: 1) there existsa partiality for risk-evasion and a partiality of risk-seeking in the conflict of athletes' serve motive;2) the serve motive of risk-seeking helps to improve the aggressiveness of serve rather than themotive of risk-evasion;3) the serve motive of risk-seeking will helps the high-level athletes ratherthan the low-level athletes to improve their service performance;4) sometimes the process ofdeciding the sport motive is an unconscious and non-rational processing one.The characteristics of the experiment can be summed up as the followings: first, in order toprovide the materials for the study of sport psychology, the author makes the classification for thedefinitions of the conflict of sport motive and gets the theory of sport motive from the largeamount of literature about sport psychology;secondly, the cognition for the sport motive in thesport situations is studied by resorting to the information processing theory in cognitivepsychology and the behavioral decision theory from economics, and the research result fills thegap in the field of sport psychology;finally, the experiment results provide the theoretical basisand direction for our country's volleyball training and matches.According to the results of the experiment, several pieces of advice are put forward: 1) thecoaches or teachers should adopt the positive and definite words to explain to the athletes (orstudents) the essentials of the actions or the strategies on the sport arena;2) the coaches orteachers should adopt the indefinite words when they emphasize to the athletes the riskconsciousness on the sport arena;3) the coaches or teachers should put more emphasis on thetraining the athletes' (or students') confidence in victory and their self-effectiveness.
