The fact that the students'foundations are very different when they enter junior high school brings a lot of difficulties to the teachers'teaching. Some students learn easily, while others struggle .This produces two extremes.We will try our best to help and guide the students increase their confidence of learning English. At first, they may hate studying English, but they will love to study English in the end .Thus we can raise the overall level of the students. This project has been one of the most important discussions among English teachers.Some students are different in terms of their studying purpose and motivation, habits and methods , intelligences and acceptance. If our teachers always use old, traditional teaching methods , the students will be trapped into this situation: They are very excited in learning English when they are in Grade One, and they become depressed when they are in Grade Two ,and they have to give up studying English in Grade Three. When the students in Grade Three, English teachers have to face so many students who are very different in English levels and also lose confidence in teaching English. They have no good methods, and they work harder but get less.To solve this problems, the author writes this thesis on the foundation of linguists research accomplishment, and twelve years'English teaching experience .In this thesis I try to discuss the way of solving the problem : use the differentiating instruction in the English classroom of junior high school .In Chapter One, I review the definition and characteristics of differentiating instruction. I point out the tending methods that are only suitable to a few good students don't meet the needs of all students. This chapter tends to lay the theoretical basis for the following discussion.Chapter Two describes the current state of English teaching in junior high school inChina. It also introduces the requirement of New Course Standards. It reveals the problems that the teachers and students meet while they are learning"Go for it ."In Chapter Three, I talk about the solutions to the problems. I suggest that in tendingEnglish teaching to junior high school students, we shall use differentiating instruction to change the present situation and utilize various teaching methods in actual teaching to make all the students get more progress.The last chapter is the conclusion.
