Emotional education has been the focus of the modern education. It is both a goal and the new question for study in current PE teaching. It is an issue of importance because it involves a series of aspects of the students such as their attitudes, sentiments, emotions and beliefs.The primary school period is the foundation years and it is critical for the pupils to develop healthy emotion and attitudes through emotional education. Furthermore, emotional education plays an important role in helping harmonious and all-rounded development of the pupils, building their characters, cultivating their creativity and enabling them to study with fun.Through a research on the current situation of emotional education in PE teaching in the eight ordinary primary schools of the south of Gansu province, the findings can be made that although emotional education is advocated in the PE education in the primary schools, a considerable number of teachers remain ignorant of emotional education, let alone its application. The common problems are stated as follows: the absence of educational education, the lack of creativity in emotional education, the lack of ability to develop the PE teaching resources, the lack of ability to develop affection with the students, the absence of kindness, patience and encouragement to them. In view of the findings, the notions and goals of modern PE teaching, the paper presents approaches to applying emotional education. Besides, it puts forward that PE teachers of primary schools are expected to study the concrete methods of strengthening the corporations among teachers and students, enhancing the emotional experience of the students so that their views of life grow to be active, optimistic and healthy. To achieve that, PE teachers should improve their quality of emotion, master the principles of emotional education, and select the proper teaching materials and methods as well as the arrangements. So in PE teaching they can improve the self-encouragement of the students, develop their ability of communication in order that the students grow more resilient in face of frustrations, full of drive in study and posses healthy emotions with initiatives and healthy personalities.
