In recent years, especially in 2001, the State Ministry of Education worked out and issued the English Curriculum for Full-time Compulsory Education and Senior High School (Experimental Edition), in which task-based language teaching (TBLT) is the recommended foreign language teaching approach to be introduced to primary and secondary English education in China. So the research on TBLT has been a focus. However it is not long before TBLT has been studied in China, many misunderstandings may occur when teachers deal with it. What is more, Can TBLT generate the expected effect? I am anxious to know the answer. Based on researches of TBLT, I carried out TBLT experiment in my school from 2003 to 2004.The thesis concludes five chapters. The first chapter introduces the research background of the thesis, By way of experiment, questionnaire and interview, it makes a survey on students' English learning situation in senior middle school. I believe TBLT approach can improve the situation and increase students' English level. Finally, the chapter enunciates the necessity, feasibility and significance of carrying out TBLT.The second chapter offers a brief review of TBLT development and summaries the present research situation in and out of China. It can help teachers understand TBLT's background of generation, definition, basic characteristics and theoretical framework etc.The third chapter is the most important part in the thesis. According to the concrete situation in my school, I carried out TBLT experiment. Two teaching approaches were used in different classes, One was the traditional 3P teaching approach and the other was TBLT approach. During the experiment, I creatively propose four teaching principles on TBLT. Based on the textbook "SEFC1B" , the chapter designs series of teaching cases to supplement and improve the theories of TBLT in classroom teaching.The fourth chapter is the experimental conclusions of the two teaching approaches. By analyzing the tests, questionnaire and the students' classroomactivities in oral class, we can draw a conclusion: TBLT can efficiently improve students' English learning attitude, arouse the spirit of cooperation, increase their listening and speaking abilities. In the long run, TBLT is helpful to students' comprehensive language application abilities and students are surely to benefit from it. At the same time, the experiment also showed the distance between the improvement of the above abilities and students' examination marks.The fifth chapter is the second thought on the implementation of TBLT. The chapter points out problems in application, and gives some suggestions to solve them. Finally the thesis proposes the principle of universality combined with particularity and inheriting combined with creativity to use TBLT. We hope TBLT will generate expected teaching effect.
