The lifelong-learning society requires people to have strong ability of reading. Knowing how to read is very important for the sound development of society. Assessment greatly influences teaching and learning but how to assess reading comprehension in the new curriculum? Based on the recent years' reading test papers for Junior 3 and the research the writer has done, the article describes the opinions on reading and the reading ability, the assessment contents of the reading and how to present the assessment. The writer, according to the characteristics of the Chinese language learning for Junior Students (13-15yrs old),suggests that assessment contents should reflect the basic requirement of reading. It should test students' reading abilities, reading methods, reading habits, reading attitude and the amount and scale of reading. The unity , comprehensiveness and openness of the assessment should be based on the text of reading. The assessment should lay emphasis on the sustainable development by guiding students to learn how to read, how to enjoy reading, and how to form sound habits and attitude of reading and finally it helps students reach the goal of using the limit time to be more productive in reading.
