The paper reports on a study of listening strategy training of English teaching in vocational secondary school. The central goal of this exploratory study is to identify and train the students' learning strategies. The subjects involved in the study were 56 students in Grade One in vocational secondary school. They were given one-year listening strategy training in their listening class and out of class. Through designed training, this study found that listening strategy training could be incorporated into vocational secondary school English teaching and the findings are listed as follows:Firstly, the students gained better understanding of the wider range of learning strategies, including meta-cognitive, cognitive, social and affective strategies.Secondly, the students were able to employ much more effective listening strategies thus improving their listening ability in terms of strategies suitable for vocational secondary school English teaching context and the effectiveness of the strategies. It is found that, meta-cognitive listening strategies were not easy to be adopted by the students trained within a short term, while the students tended to adopt much more easily those cognitive and social and affective listening strategies; another is that, there were differences among the use of cognitive listening strategies. Some strategies that required the application of knowledge of language and grammar were not easy to train within a short period.
