The core of the modern educational technology, in a certain sense, means the development and application of computer technology, the terminal trend of which is the web-based multi-media, which, because of its technological advancement and functional powerfulness, is being exploited and applied quickly to teaching and represents the direction of modern educational technology development. However, the development of the educational technology application will not necessarily improve the teaching efficiency, for it must be answerable to adapted teaching opinions, teaching processes, teaching methods, teaching designs and the integrated teaching model. This paper means to probe into these adaptations, focusing on the study about how to teach Chinese reading comprehension in the multi-media surroundings.This thesis can be divided into three parts, the introduction, the body and the conclusion. In the introduction part, I begin with the reasons why I choose this topic for my thesis and then end with a brief literature review of the topic. The body can be further divided into four parts. The first part lists some misuses of multi-media in the reading comprehension teaching at present. The second part discusses the relationship between multi-media and the reading comprehension teaching. They are supposed to and able to be combined. The third part analyzes some adaptations in the reading comprehension teaching in the multi-media surroundings, which include the adaptations of the classes, of the students, of the teachers, and also of the books. The fourth part presents a reading comprehension teaching model in the multi-media surroundings. It includes the goal, the theoreticalrationale, the operational processes and methods, and the real-time class recordings. The conclusion part elaborates the advantages and virtues of the application of multi-media to teaching, its warnings and also the prospect of the modern education development.This thesis is one part of the national project titled research on the constructing of a new teaching model in the information technology surroundings. The thesis is based on constructionism and also my teaching experiences in the past 10 years. Its major research method is to do research in teaching activities and to get conclusions in doing research. I hope my thesis will help, both theoretically and practically, to construct a "new teaching model", and also help the Chinese teachers learn how to apply the multi-media technology to teaching.
