Modern Interpretation Of Traditional Wushu

The history of Wushu's development tells us that the emergence of Competitive Wushu is the active response of Wushu to the developing age. Degeneration of Traditional Wushu shows that in this new age Wushu has made a kind of betrayal of its traditional order. It follows that the development and transformation of Wushu is not a completely passive response by the passive acceptance of the world, but an active interpretation of the world under outside influences by its possible means. However, on the way of the exploration and development of Competitive Wushu, owing to self's immatureness and incompleteness, there appears the tendency of Dancing Wushu and the plight of audience's absence. That's why people began to doubt Competitive Wushu and yearn for its original tradition in the hope of the rediscovery of its lost spiritual home. Because of the profound emotion towards Wushu and the deep dependence upon nation-complex, there disappears certain reason during its returning to the original tradition. What the paper does here is not for a direct description of its cultural argumentation, but for a modern interpretation of Traditional Wushu. Referring to the development of the age and the needs of people, this paper makes a deeper thinking and questioning towards the cultural argumentation in an attempt to provide a theoretical reference for the better understanding of Traditional Wushu.This paper focuses on Traditional Wushu and deals with issues, such as the historical context of Traditional Wushu's development, impetus and obstruction, voices for the returning to the original tradition, methods to view Traditional Wushu, the world environment of Traditional Wushu's development, the demands of the opening world to Traditional Wushu, as well as the situating of Traditional Wushu in this new century, and so on.
