A Study On The Associate Degree System

In the past twenty years, the academic degree system has played an important role in the development of higher education in our country. Entering the higher education popularization, the scale and structures of higher education is changing enormously. To keep on the positive effect of the academic degree system, the country must face the problems of imperfection in tertiary and vocational education and carry on reforms in our academic degree system. The paper stresses on the construction of the Associate degree system in our country. The paper roots from the introduction of academic degree and the academic degree system, and then, talks about Associate degree system. In the section of the origin and development of the Associate degree system, the paper has a concrete study on the Associate degree system in U.S., using the case of Joliet Junior College. It has also investigated on the experience of establishments in Hongkong and Taiwan .Then, considering the demand of the development of the tertiary and vocational education in our country, the paper construct our Associate degree system from five aspects: the authority of degree conferral, the program of developing Associate applicants, degree conferral, the agreement in transferring to Bachelor degree, and the accreditation of Associate degree .At last, to make sure the effect of the Associate degree system, the paper improves the perform condition of the new system from three aspects-governments, schools and the society. The paper aims to give an idea of the reform of the degree system in our country, promoting the construction of the academic degree system in our country.
