The attempts and exploration of the graduate degree system are based on the changes in graduate education reform and are an important part of the reform and development of higher education in the early days of the People’s Republic of China.From the founding of the People’s Republic of China to the outbreak of the "Cultural Revolution",the development of postgraduate education in my country has gone through three stages:exploration and start,turning and transition,impact and adjustment.In the first few years of the founding of the People’s Republic of China,the postgraduate education system was in its infancy.The main task was to clarify the training tasks and goals of postgraduate education.At that time,it did not have the objective conditions to build a graduate degree system.With the gradual recovery of the national economy and the adjustment and development of the higher education system,plans to build a graduate degree system have been put on the agenda.Since 1955,the People’s Republic of China has turned to the Soviet Union to study and implemented the associate doctorate system.This is not only a useful attempt in the history of graduate education in the People’s Republic of China,but also the only graduate degree system put into practice in the People’s Republic of China in the 1950s and 1960s.Regrettably,due to the influence and restriction of multiple factors,the associate doctoral degree system is like a short-lived one.From then on,up to 1966,under the direct leadership and organization of the Party Central Committee,The People’s Republic of China had formulated a postgraduate degree system many times,but in the end they all stood on the sidelines.Through a comparative analysis of the content of the postgraduate degree system construction in the first seventeen years of the founding of the People’s Republic of China,it is not difficult to see that there were certain disputes and disagreements about the classification of the graduate degree system,the use of names,and the division of disciplines.Coupled with the inadequate understanding of the nature of degrees at that time,the conflicts caused by the implementation of graduate degrees,and the influence of many factors such as the domestic political environment and changes in Sino-foreign relations,the efforts to build a graduate degree system in the past seventeen years have fallen short.However,the relevant research and discussion on the establishment of the graduate degree system in this period undoubtedly laid a useful historical foundation and ideological preparation for the introduction of a systematic chemical degree system after our country’s reform and opening up.Therefore,a profound clarification and analysis of the construction process of our country’s graduate degree system from 1949 to 1966 will not only help construct a scientific and reasonable degree system with Chinese characteristics,but also provide reference and motivation for building a country with higher education.
