Task--based approach has been widely adopted since the 1980's and it is a meaning—focused teaching method, aiming at fulfilling language communicative tasks. Along with the high speed development of China's economy and culture, English teaching has been developing very fast from teaching materials to teaching methods in order to meet different needs of different people. In middle school this development shows even greater urgency and importance. Task—based approach is the approach recommended to be applied in senior middle school by China's Ministry of Education. At the same time people have found task—based approach has a lot of strengths. For example, it focuses on cultivating the students' ability of using language, of searching for necessary information, of cooperation, of creativity and so on. What's more, compared to form—based approaches , TBLT (Task-based language teaching) consists not of a sequence of preselected or preplanned language items, but of a sequence of communicative tasks to be performed in the target language.TBLT aims at providing opportunities for the learners to experiment with and explore both spoken and written language through learning activities which are designed to engage learners in the authentic, practical, and functional use of language for meaningful purposes.The task-based language learning not only incorporates the research achievements of SLA ( Second language acquisiton ) but also focuses on some newest teaching notions e g, cognitive psychology , interactive theories and so on , in other words , TBLT develops and perfects the communicative language teaching approach.There are mainly four parts in this thesis:The first part is an introduction, which states the purpose and significance of this study.The second part is about literature review, presenting some general theories related to tasks and TBLT, including the definitions and characteristics of tasks, theoretical basis, features of TBLT and so on.The third part discusses the application of TBLT in senior middle school, and is...
