The Design And Implementation Of Task–based Learning Activities In 3D Virtual Environment

3D virtual environment supported by virtual reality technology can create realistic learning situations that stimulate easily the learners’ initial learning interest and learning motivation and bring strong learning immersive for the learners. However, because of paying too much attention to the interaction design and the verisimilitude of the learning contents, the instructors in 3D virtual environment often ignore the in-depth design of learning activity and the further strengthening and sustaining on the learners’ learning interest and learning motivation, fail to make full use of the learner stickiness of 3D virtual environment to obtain more ideal and efficient learning outcomes. In order to solve the above problems, the task-based teaching method is introduced into 3D virtual environment as the core concept of learning activity design in this research, to better stimulate and strengthen and sustain the learners’ learning motivation, meanwhile, to further improve the quality of design of learning activities and the effect of implementing in 3D virtual environment.In this research, combined with relevant theories, the task–based learning activity model and design framework in 3D virtual environment are built, the implementation processes and design principles are also put forward pointedly. Then, a task-based learning activity system and another ordinary learning activity system are designed and implemented in Open-Sim. Last but not least, the effectivenesses of the task–based learning activities in 3D virtual environment are validated through the contrast group quasi-experimental study.The research results show that, on the basis of stimulating the learners’ learning motivation, the design and implementation of the task–based learning activities in 3D virtual environment is an advantage to better strengthen and sustain the learners’ learning motivation, enhance the learners’ learning experience and help them to achieve a better learning effect.
