This thesis is a study of cooperative learning method in the beginning period of junior middle school English teaching. Theoretically based on social psychology and cognitive psychology, opening up and making use of the cooperative interaction as the starting point, group work being the basic teaching method, and team achievement being the main evaluation measurement, our teaching emphasized that students in a group should complete their common tasks through clear-cut division of responsibility, so that it had a remarkable actual effect on raising students' achievements and improving the social psychological phenomenon inside a class; more important, it paid close attention to students' overall development, and it considered not only whether students had grasped the knowledge and skills, but also how to apply what they had learned to the cooperative circumstances. This thesis gives the definition of cooperative learning, illustrates its features, analyzes the condition and significance to apply cooperative learning in the beginning period of junior English learning, and shows the methods and process of how to adopt it. Through investigation, inquiry and experiment, it is confirmed that cooperative learning can help students attain their ideals and develop their interpersonal skills needed for succeeding in the multicultural world.
