Reading is an important activity in human society, and it is a complicated process of thinking and solving problems. In such a process, the readers need to use certain reading strategies so as to create a fine environment for reading and to finish reading tasks better and faster. Using strategies in reading process is a really important way of acquiring knowledge and improving their English level for all the learners, especially for the English learners in our country. In this article, through the questionnaire survey, we have made a contrastive study among 466 Chinese high-school students in using 16 reading strategies during their Chinese and English reading process, in order that we could know the similarities and differences in their using the strategies in foreign language reading process and mother tongue reading process. We have also made a test with a Chinese reading material and an English reading material for 40 Chinese senior students, which gives a further confirmation of the quantitative investigation result. The result shows that,(1) Chinese high-school students use the reading strategies in such a same way in their Chinese and English reading process;(2)the students like to use the microscopic reading strategies both in Chinese and English reading process; (3)the students prefer to use reading strategies, especially the microscopic reading strategies in English reading rather than use them in Chinese reading;(4)there are some differences in strategy using for the students of different sex and different grade in their Chinese and English reading process.According to the results of this study, the author also gives some advice on high school English-reading teaching in our country.
