This paper reviewed the studies of achievement goals and personality characteristics including their theoretical construction and main conclusions from experimental studies. This thesis took the middle school P.E. teachers and the college P.E. teachers in Shanghai as subjects and used Teacher Achievement Goals Questionnaire and Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (Adult) to explore influencing factors and developmental tendencies of expert P.E. teachers, proficient P.E. teachers and novice P.E. teachers' achievement goals and personality characteristics, and also the relationship between them.By the questionnaire, the paper discussed the standard of novice teachers, proficient teachers and expert teachers in physical education. In the aspect of achievement goals and personality characteristics, according to the data of the research, analyzed the difference among the expert P.E. teachers, proficient P.E. teachers and novice P.E. teachers, the advantage the expert P.E. teacher had, and the reason the difference caused.Through comparing the result of the expert teacher in physical education with the other subject teachers, tabled a proposal about how to improve the quality of the novice P.E. teacher.Conclusions are the followings: (1) There are remarkable difference on learning goals between the expert teachers and the novice teachers in Shanghai, and the highly remarkable difference between the expert P.E. teachers and proficient P.E. teachers. The leaning goals level of expert P.E. teachers was much higher than novice and proficient P.E. teachers. Having a higher learning goals level and a moderate performance goals level, the expert P.E. teachers had good achievement goals. (2) In extroversion and introversion of personality characteristics, there was a remarkable difference between the expert and novice P.E. teachers; in neuroticism aspect, the expert P.E. teachers had a remarkable difference towards the novice and the proficient P.E. teachers respectively. Having the lowest psychoticism level, a moderate extroversion and introversion level and a lower neuroticism level, the expert P.E. teachers had good personality characteristics.
