Research On The Achievement Goal Orientation And Personality Characteristics Of Novice, Proficient And Expert Teacher

This research examined the reliability and validity of the self-designed"Teacher's achievement goal questionnaires" at first, the results showed that the questionnaires is a useful tool in researching the achievement goal orientation of middle school teachers . Then it investigated the achievement goal orientation and personality characterstics of novice, proficient and expert teacher by using the scaling method . The results indicated that compared with the average person , our middle school teachers are more extroverts , they have high level of psychoticism . There is a remarkable difference in task goal between the novice teacher and proficient teacher . The task goal of the novice teacher is remarkably lower than that of the proficient teacher. However , there is no obvious difference between these two kinds of teacher in the performance goal . There is a notable difference between the novice teacher and proficient teacher in the dimension of psychoticism. The level of psychoticism of the novice teacher is remarkably lower than that of the proficient teacher . There is no striking difference between the proficient teacher and the expert teacher in the achievement goal orientation . There is a significant difference between the proficient teacher and the expert teacher in the dimension of neuroticism. The level of neuroticism of the proficient teacher is remarkably lower than that of the expert teacher . Task goal is an effective predicted variable of all dimensions of personality characteristic , Performance -avoidance orientation is also an effective predicted variable of the extroversion-introversion and neuroticism of teacher .
