Since 1990s, one of the focuses of the higher education curriculum reform in the U.S.A is to provide Service-Learning in the program, so that theory and practice can be integrated closely. And we find it's useful for reference to the reform of China's higher education curriculum and teaching.The article is composed of six parts except the introduction.The introduction includes literature review, the research purposes, the research contents, the research meaning, the research methods and so on.The first part summarizes the basic connotation of Service-Learning in American colleges and universities, and it reviews its historical development. In the article, Service-Learning in American colleges and universities holds such connotations as paying equal attention to service and study, cooperation and mutual benefit between school and community, connecting service with program, and reflecting activities. The article holds that Service-Learning becomes a hot topic until 1990s although it has a long history.
