The Study Of Modern Female Education In Jiujiang

Jiujiang, a famous south city is surrounded by Yangtz River, Lushan mountain and poyang lake, whose resouces are abundant and people are outstanding , modern , Jiujiang city depended on Tianjin Treaty in 1858 to open its commenial port and have trade relations. Since then, modern economics has been ,developing in the competition with foreign businessmen. By the influence of European and American culture ,Chinese and western culture was blended ;which cawsed the change of society customs and people value .Under these circumstances ,On Jan. 1st,1873, Gertrude Howe, the first woman of studying in the United States, run a half—time female primary school in Jiujiang. It was called SangLin school later .In 1907,It was officially named Rulison high school. It was the earliest female school not only in Jiujiang but in Jiangxi province .At that time ,It was because the western Christian force and Chinese pioneering people that women students opinion of "three obediences and four virtues "and "women without knowledge is kindness".Rulison high school experienced three stages from creation and extension to improvement, among the 80 years, there were Gertrude Howe, Likaide, Wumao cheng these three presidents. The school moved Jiujiang women left boudoir to school and society and sewed for society. Although the number was not large , they had great influence, SHimeiyu , Kangcheng, the students of Rulison high school .graduated in 1892, who went to American to study. After graduation, they came back to China in 1896, they were the earliest retured women students in history , at the same time,they were the first women doctors in western medicine and the earliest women Doctor of Medicine. Rulison high school was drawn attention because of its condition and academic atmosphere.The Chapter of Female School declared the legal of woman education in 1907 by Qing government, and confirmed not foot—binding by law . And these were great progression. It was said that there were fifty-four Primary School of Rulison high school lying on the border of gan , wan and e provinces in Shen Newspaper on 8, 4, 1914.These small groups looked for themselves and showed their own value in modern society relying on self—development and contribution .In another word , the development ? and progression of femal students promoted the process of equality of man and woman ,it also did great credit to modern education of Jiujiang.
