Exploration And Application Of English Reading Strategies In Middle Schools

Reading plays an important role in communication as well as in language learning. As we all know, reading is a means of understanding and absorbing written information from such sources as newspapers, magazines, science documents, textbooks, all types of literary works, and the internet.The reformation of English language teaching is developing unceasingly. A series of issues are paid great attention to, such as the nature, status and function of foreign language curriculum, which are adapted with it. Learning strategies are one of the guarantees which enhance the efficiency of study and develop students' independent learning capability. On the other hand advocating independent study is the key point of English curriculum reforms. Independent study is not only advantageous in enhancing students' school academic records but also the foundation of students' lifelong study and development. English reading strategy is an important component part of learning strategies. It is advantageous in enhancing students' English reading efficiency and their reading ability and increasing their confidence in learning English as well.Although English reading is important , the teaching effect is not always satisfying. One reason is that some students are not aware of reading strategies and how to use them. Another reason is that some teachers neglect guiding the students how to read and what to read. Therefore, teaching fails to satisfy the need of reading.This thesis is intended to show the importance of using applying reading strategies in language teaching by means of data obtained from my experimention.The thesis is divided into five parts:1. A survey about reading in a middle school.2. The theories in learning strategies.3. The factors that affect the use of strategies and some effective reading strategies.4. An experiment in teaching English reading strategies.
