An Initial Study On Standards And Tests Of Beginning Teachers' Qualification In The United States

The new technological revolution since 20 century has changed human life greatly. In this period with knowledge-based economy, Talent has been the key point in competition among countries. As we all know, cultivation of the excellent talent depends on the improvement of teachers' qualities. Now, how to train qualified teachers has been the problem that the whole world should face and exploit together. Nowadays, our standards for beginning teacher is too generalization and ambiguous. The credentialing of teachers' qualification is based on teachers' educational background and lack of effective evaluation. All these problems make it impossible to guarantee our teachers' quality. Therefore, how to establish appropriate standards and tests for beginning teacher is quite important and urgent. In this thesis, I select American standards and tests for beginning teacher as my research field, with the aim to improve and perfect quality assurance for beginning teacher in our country. Methods of literature gathering and comparing and analyzing are adopted in the thesis. The whole thesis consists of five chapters: It begins with the exordium, then the retrospect of history of American standards and tests for beginning teachers' qualification follows in the second chapter. The third chapter introduces the current situation and characteristic of American standards and tests for beginning teacher. The fourth chapter makes a concrete analysis of the problem American standards and tests for beginning teacher are facing and points out its trends. The last part of the thesis provides some beneficial reference for the future development of quality assurance for beginning teacher in our country.
