Chinese is the second language for Mongolian-nationality students, So Chinese teaching has some characteristics that are different from their native language teaching, especially Chinese vocabulary. From the nature of teaching, the characteristics are shown in the following three areas. Firstly, for Mongolian students, Chinese vocabulary belongs to their second language. Secondly, teaching Chinese vocabulary is a basic language teaching procedure. Finally, Chinese vocabulary teaching is an intersected teaching activity. So, teachers should focus on words, phrases and idioms that are easily mixed up with their native language.Though Chinese vocabulary plays a very important role in Chinese teaching, it is difficult for Mongolian students to deal with them. That is not only because Chinese has such a large vocabulary and complex system, but also because its constant change and development with the society. Besides, Chinese vocabulary is closely related to Chinese cultural tradition, psychological features and thinking habits. According to surveys, Mongolian students often turn to their native language for help or turn to Chinese vocabulary they have already known to deal with the difficulties they meet with.Chinese vocabulary teaching should focus on fostering students'ability to use them in reality. From the variety of mistakes Mongolian students often make when using Chinese vocabulary, we can see the key issue is that their Chinese vocabulary is not systematic. Mongolian, as their native language, affects the students'understanding and use of Chinese vocabulary on all sides. What's more, Mongolian students often lack practice. Therefore, the key toChinese vocabulary teaching lies in helping students set up a large and systematic Chinese vocabulary net, guiding them to think in Chinese way, and strengthening communicating in Chinese.Based on the rule and nature of the second language vocabulary teaching and the problems Mongolian senior students often have, teachers should take proper teaching strategies suitable for Mongolian students. These strategies mainly include system-setting up strategy, guide and transfer strategy and situational teaching strategy. System-setting up strategy means setting up a Chinese vocabulary net in students'mind. Guide and transfer strategy indicates that teachers should compare the similarities and differences between Chinese vocabulary and Mongolian vocabulary, so that we can make use of positive transform and avoid negative transform. Situational teaching strategy means that we put vocabulary teaching into read situation, so that students can remember better and reduce mistakes. By using the strategies above on one hand, teachers can promote their teaching level, on the other hand, students'ability to communicate in Chinese can be improved.
