It is a universal phenomenon in senior high school that students who study arts are very weak in mathematics and it is difficult to solve this problem thoroughly. It even becomes a main factor to restrict the development of education from some aspects. The reasons for this matter are complicated, but the major reasons are various learning obstacles that the students meet with when learning mathematics. Therefore, the study of learning obstacles will be an important part in resolving the problem with these weak students.Researchers from western countries have engaged in this field for more than 100 years since an American special educationist, Morgan put forward the concept of learning obstacles in 1896. Instead, Chinese scholars began their study in the late 1980's, and moreover, the objects which they studied are mostly the students in the nine-year compulsory educational stage and no more work has been done about the senior middle school students. With the development of senior high school education, the problem began to stand out, especially to arts students. Therefore, my dissertation chose arts students who usually have trouble in learning mathematics as subjects, and also discussed the concrete manifestation and the necessary reasons for their learning obstacles. Based on the investigation, the dissertation also put forward some strategies to overcome these learning obstacles.The investigation showed that among the arts students of senior high school the learning obstacle lies in cognition obstacle, emotion obstacle, will-power obstacle, they are subjective factors, while there are also objective factors: learning environment and failure of mathematics teaching.The reasons why the middle school students have so many difficulties and barriers in studying maths is mainly from the student himself, teachers, families and society. For the students studying art,they haven't pure motives, meanwhile they lack enough acquaintance with the importance maths and have no clear goal ,so they are positive in maths study.Some show no interest in maths,others lack of motive force.They seldom have chance to experience pleasure because of their weak will, which weakens their activity in maths studying.It is improper method, incorrect attitude, over expectation that affect their motivation. Students studying arts are mostly are anxious about maths,which makes them get high marks in exams. Outdated teaching concept,inflexible method,lack of communication between teachers and students are the main reasons why students do not get good result in maths study.The reasons from families are below: Firstly, parents themselves show little interested in studies, meanwhile they do not created a good atmosphere for their children to study. Indifferent to their child and non-scientific instruction ,such as little communication with teachers and school, poor conditions for study, can form the barriers for students to improve their mathXittle care for students from society,lack of social envirnment for study,out of full-time employment and worship for money are the barriers for students to study.On the basis of this, a series of specific measures against the learning obstacles were supplied. To students with cognition obstacle, there are several strategies such as changing the teaching conception; making students the center of teaching activities; reforming teaching method; promoting the students' ability of cognition, reinforcing the knowledge through different ways and angles by repeating and crossing much. To the students with emotion obstacle, teacher should enhance the quality of their teaching and affect students with their own knowledge, improve the relationship with students, remove the misunderstanding, lead students to analyse the reasons of their study failure, pay more attention on cultivating students' emotion and give students timely encouragement. To students with will-power obstacle, the following strategies are supplied: first, making students set clear aims and great ambition, second, cultivating students' active and amused emotion, third, helping students to make out a practical study plans, fourth, building students' will through minor assignments, fifth, promoting students' will through famous scientists in mathematics history, sixth, skillfully asking questions and making students attempt pleasure of the success. To students with study environment obstacle, it is important to improve the study environment around, link up the relationship between teacher and patriarchs, build a harmonious study atmosphere at home, and purify the social environment. To students whose obstacle comes from the failure of mathematics teaching, teacher must change the teaching conception, adopt the diverse evaluation systems and set a concept of "Every students are sure to be successful".
