On The Existing Issues And Developing Tendency Of Chinese University Ranking

With the advance of the higher education internationalization and massification in China, competition between universities becomes more and more remarkably keen, and more attention from outside has been paid on the level and quality of Chinese universities. It has become the fundamental tendency to evaluate and supervise universities by themselves or others for the sake of the healthy development of higher education.As the burgeoning way of education management, the rising and the developing of university ranking meet the need of the public, the university and the society. Scientific university ranking exerts significant influence on the society in such aspects as it strengthens the government's macro-supervision, improves universities'functions and helps allocate social resources reasonably.Up till now, Chinese university ranking has a history of more than ten years. During these periods, much enthusiasm and effort have been put on this issue, which makes university ranking develop quickly. There are remarkable achievements, but still many problems unsolved in this field. Based on the preceding studies, the thesis describes and analyzes the university ranking's background and developing situation of the domestic and foreign countries. Then with two typical ranking organizations in china as an example, it probes the root causes for the general problems in those existing rankings. Furthermore, corresponding proposals and ideas to these problems are put forward after studying and referring the successful experience of foreign countries. Finally, a brief analysis is brought forth on the tendency of the university rankings in future.
