Learner autonomy is an important subject in the modern education research. It is also a learning style strongly advocated in the world. To promote learner autonomy in the course of English teaching is one of the major purposes of English teaching in senior high schools, and an important research subject to the teachers. This paper combines theoretical analysis with teaching practice conclusion to discuss the ways to promote learner autonomy in senior high schools. It is composed of the following five chapters: Chapter1 "Introduction": The author introduces the definition of learner autonomy, the theoretical bases, an overview of the research in and out of China, and the value of this research. Chapter2 "An investigation into the present situation of learner autonomy in the senior high school": From the questionnaire and the interviews, the author learned that the present situation of learner autonomy in senior high schools is not satisfactory, and that there are obvious differences in learner autonomy between the excellent learners and poor learners. Based on this investigation, the author suggested some solutions to the problem. Chapter 3 " Learning strategies training for learner autonomy": The author introduce the definition, the classification, the importance of learner strategy training and some training models. Chapter 4 "Learner autonomy training in practice": The author provides various activities aimed at promoting learner autonomy and put forth the approaches to achieve it--- Stimulate the students' motivation; Develop the students with successful learning strategies; Guide the students to learning resources; Integrate formative assessment topromote learner autonomy. Chapter5 "Conclusion": This chapter comprises the initial achievements of the research and some reflections on the English teaching reform.
