The learner autonomy concept has been proposed since the beginning of 1980's and received the domestic and foreign language educational world widespread attention. This thesis discusses Learner Autonomy concept and theory, as well as how students are trained in the independent English learning in ordinary senior schools with the help of learning strategies. The purpose of this thesis is to arouse teachers' and students'awareness of the significance of learner autonomy in teaching and learning and the teachers'roles in assisting students to become autonomous learners in the learning conditions by the experiment on students'learning autonomy and data analyses. Altogether there are 5 parts in this thesis:Introduction,Literature Review,Significance of learner autonomy,The Design for the Study and Conclusion . The reflecting of the outcomes of the two-year teaching experiment of learner autonomy conducted at senior school showed that learner autonomy is not only an idea. Instead, it is something that can be put into practice. .
