On Ethical Principles Of Teaching Procedure

Teachers are often confronted with ethical problems in the teaching process. They can get anything helpful neither in the code of ethics of teacher profession nor in our system of teaching principle. In this paper, the author tries to explore another way to make a transformation from Theory of Virtues for Teacher to Theory of Duties for Teaching, namely to discuss ethical principles of teaching procedure.With a brief review of development of teaching principles, the author digs out that there is little ethical principle of teaching procedure in any system of teaching principle, meanwhile, value orientation on aims of teaching, normative criterions about content of teaching and technological principles of teaching procedure are largely existed.To make up this kind of defect, the author analyzes ethical foundations for procedural principle of teaching. Teaching has ethical requirement for its procedure inherently which is also requirement to treat individual student. Besides, as a process for teachers and students to participate together, teaching must has its due procedure which is also requirement to treat students as a community. To take due procedure seriously reflects such ideals as respect for persons equally and benefit maximization.Based on these ideals, the author makes argumentations for principles of intellectual freedom, due procedure of punishment and equal treatment of students. Finally, the author proposes two projects to intensify construction of procedural principle of teaching and to improve our system of teaching principle. So it can provide principled guidance for teachers to deal with ethical dilemmas encountered in their teaching.
