Improving students' comprehension is one of the most important objectives of English teaching in senior high school. In teaching practice, the author found that many students had low motivation and a negative attitude towards reading. This research is an experimental study of EFL (English as a foreign language) strategy training. The study is designed mainly to explore the impact of strategy instruction on students' reading comprehension in Sheqi High School in Henan Province. Through the study, the author also wants to see whether students' use of reading strategies and attitude towards reading could be changed. Two classes of senior grade one in Sheqi high school were taken as the subjects, one as experimental class and the other as control class. 54 students of the experimental class received a 5-month strategy training while 57 students of the control class still received traditional teaching for five months. Both of the experimental class and the control class filled out questionnaires before and after training. Besides, all of the subjects took the pretest and posttest. The scores were statistically analyzed by SPSS. The result showed that the students who received strategy training outperformed those who received traditional teaching on a standardized reading test. It proves that strategy instruction does facilitate students' reading comprehension. Also, students use strategies more often and they have a positive attitude towards English reading.
